Media room

Progressio’s London-based media officer Jo Barrett deals with all enquiries from the press.
Progressio spokespeople
Our London-based experts have longstanding expertise on a whole range of international development issues. We operate in 11 developing countries, which means our staff can offer reaction to events happening on the ground, often as stories break.
And, with nearly 40 years’ of experience placing skilled workers with local communities in developing countries, we’re proud to be able to pass on the views and opinions of the people living and working at the sharp end of development – literally, “voices from the south”.
If you’re a journalist or producer looking for an expert on any of our key issues – or if you have a broader question about our experiences of international development – contact our Media Officer, Jo Barrett, on +44 (0)7940 703911
Our regions
Africa, Middle East and Asia
We can give you the latest on development issues in the countries where we work – Zimbabwe, Malawi, Yemen, Somaliland and TimorLeste (East Timor). We’re also up to speed on political issues in Africa more broadly and on the fight for justice in TimorLeste.
Central America and Caribbean
We’ve got the inside track on development issues across Latin America, particularly the Central American and Caribbean regions (including El Salvador, Nicaragua, Honduras) with additional focus on human rights, indigenous rights and governance. We also have a lot to say about development in Haiti and, particularly, binational relations between Haiti and the Dominican Republic.
South America
We also work in Peru and Ecuador – and can tell you all about development, indigenous rights and the environmental challenges in both countries.
Environment
Climate change, water and logging
Ask us for analysis on issues relating to the environment and development, both in the countries where we work and in the developing world more broadly.
Food security
From small-scale farming to agro-ecological production and international food crises – we can tell you what we think about the challenges of feeding the planet’s 6bn people today and in the future.
Development policy
Poverty, aid and development policy
We know all about UK and EU policy on poverty, aid and development and how policies thought up in the North affect poor and marginalised commuities in the South.
Faith
Catholic social teaching
Also called the Catholic Church’s “best kept secret”. Ask us about this inspiring body of social justice teaching which drives radical, progressive action on poverty in the UK and around the world.
Faith, development and environment
We also cover issues linked to faith and development and faith and the environment. As we’re independent of the Catholic Church we offer a unique perspective on Catholicism and development too.
Conflict and emergencies
States affected by conflict
Many of the countries we work in are post-conflict states with their own particular social, environmental and economic challenges. Ask us about the impact of conflict on development.
Emergency relief
One of our staff has over ten years’ experience of emergency relief work. If you have a pressing question about relief work, how countries recover from disasters and the impact on longer term development, we can help.
Gender
Gender and development
Tackling gender inequity is crucial to tackling poverty. We’re experts on gender and development, and can provide spokespeople on both specific and broader gender-related issues.
