Stories from the ground

Forests are vital to communities all over the world. We asked some of our development workers to tell us how communities were protecting their forests. Three features are highlighted below.

Life after logging

Providing alternate livelihoods to those who used to make a living out of illegal logging and to the 80 families in the community of Plan Grande is the next step in ensuring their forests are protected. Nuria Zayas reports from Honduras.

Empowering people to protect their forests

“We the communities must fight together to prevent deforestation and secure water”, a yellow card reads on the wall of a school in the El Coco community, Honduras. Nuria Zayas reports on efforts to bring communities together to protect their forests.

Protecting San Jacinto Hill: the lungs of San Salvador

"I want to achieve something, and I want the hill to be declared a protected zone.  We work with the communities living in risk at the foot of the volcano, too. We are struggling, not just for our own communities, but for everyone”. Maggie von Vogt reports.
