Teclah Ponde is a development worker in Zimbabwe: a local hero working with prisoners to reduce the spread of HIV. When asked about her work, Teclah says: “For me, development work is not just a job; it is a calling to bring hope and change.”
Zimbabwe’s prisons are in the midst of a humanitarian crisis and even the basic needs of food and drink cannot be taken for granted. So Teclah has helped set up food programmes for children living with their imprisoned mothers. She also helps raise awareness among prisoners about prevention and treatment of HIV, and works with prisoners as they rejoin their communities. Her work has made an impact on many people, giving them hope and the opportunity to transform their own lives and the lives of their families.
This is the kind of difference that Progressio development workers make.
