Where does my money go?

We aim to spend as much of our funds as possible on helping improve people’s lives in the countries where we work. Last year, we spent 78% of our money on placing and funding development workers, and advocating for change to the policies and structures that keep people poor. Donations and membership subscriptions go towards this work – and if you choose to sponsor a development worker, you will know exactly where your money is going!

Of course, like any charity, we have to spend some money on the costs of running the organisation. We are a UK-based charity working internationally; most of our funding comes from UK sources. So we have to pay for and equip a UK office, and pay for essential support operations such as finance and administration. We also have to invest some money in communications (such as running this website!) and in fundraising and publicity. However, the proportion of expenditure on these activities is smaller than many other UK charities.

You can read more about how we are funded and how the money is spent or, for more detailed information, download our most recent financial statements below.

If you have any more questions, please email me and I will try to answer them!
