Based in Brixton, London, with regular visits to our programmes overseas in the first 12 months, reducing thereafter to occasional overseas travel

This is a great opportunity for an experienced funding professional to take the lead in developing and successfully implementing Progressio’s institutional funding strategy. The main purpose of the post is to increase income from grant making bodies, and to increase Progressio’s fundraising capacity in applying for and managing institutional grants and reaching out to new opportunities. 

You will have line management responsibilities for the Programme Funding Officer, and will play a vital role in achieving our income goals and supporting the long-term sustainable funding of our programmes in Malawi, Somaliland, Yemen and Zimbabwe and our advocacy work. 

The successful candidate should have a degree in a relevant discipline, or equivalent experience, and training in fundraising, e.g. proposal development, donor relations, or equivalent experience.

Demonstrable experience in developing funding strategies for overseas development programmes; of successful fundraising from a variety of UK and international institutional funders of sums in the excess of £150,000; of writing high quality funding proposals and donor reports; of leading quality control of funding applications (narrative and budget); of developing and maintaining tracking systems to monitor success rates of applications, income secured and pipeline funding, and of working with people remotely in different time zones is essential.

You should have excellent knowledge of current UK and international funding trends and sources; the ability to engage and build effective donor relationships; the ability to assimilate, analyse and disseminate written information quickly; excellent writing skills for fundraising, including the ability to write appealing proposals for different audiences, and sound numeracy skills, with the ability to prepare and interpret financial information.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to communicate with a wide range of people in a collaborative manner and enhance effective work relationships; sound organisational and time management skills; the ability to use own initiative, be self-motivated and prioritise effectively in order to meet deadlines; an entrepreneurial, results-orientated and dynamic approach, and cultural awareness and sensitivity in an inter-faith setting is required.
