World Youth Day 08

World Youth Day 08 logoOff to WYDSYD? (That's World Youth Day in Sydney, for the uninitiated)  Trying to livesimply? CAFOD's Stephen and Anna give you the low down for your trip so you don't inadvertently destroy us all.

"We've been on a low-carbon tour of groups going to WYD", Stephen says, "looking at what it means to live simply, sustainably and in solidarity with people living in poverty, given the fact we're all going to be flying half way around the world!" So what are they asking you to do if you're off?

The WYDSYD Challenge

If we've visited your group already, you'll have your very own WYDSYD Challenge". If not, there's still time!

Whether it's asking cardinals about climate change, or speaking with people from 25 different countries, you can enter the challenge. Just go to www.cafod.org.uk/wyd and find out more.

Photo Competition

Fancy yourself as the next Mario Testino? Take photos of WYD that show people living simply, living sustainably or living in solidarity with others. Email your top images to youth@cafod.org.uk - the best ones will go on the website, and the winner will receive two tickets to CAFOD's Stand up for Zimbabwe comedy night at the Comedy Store in London in November.

Putting the WORLD in WYD

When else do you get the chance to meet people from over 100 different countries?  Make the most of the experience. See a group with a flag you don't recognise? Go and say hello! Even if you don't speak the same language you can always use actions, smile and wave. If we're flying all that way, it's important to get the most out of it!

While you're there

CAFOD's Stephen Davies and Anna Field will be at WYDSYDIf you're heading to WYD come and meet us at Customs House' opposite Circular Quay Station.  CAFOD is working alongside our sister agency, Caritas Australia, to encourage pilgrims to stand with the most marginalised and let the world know that we want justice. There'll be conversations with cardinals, street art for change, a chance to find out more on refugee issues and climate change, live music from traditional song men from the Northern Territory and much more. Download a programme at www.cafod.org.uk/wyd. Anna and Stephen from CAFOD will be there every evening under a CAFOD banner, so come and say hi!
