Progressio advertises placements throughout the year on our website and on other relevant jobs websites and networks. For each post there is a placement description, selection criteria and application form.

For vacancies in the UK, Progressio will consider applications only from people who already have the right to live and work in the UK. This is because in order for Progressio to apply successfully for a work permit, we need to show that there are no suitable candidates who are normally resident in the UK or who are nationals of the European Economic Area (EU states plus Norway, Liechtenstein and Iceland).

Attending an Interview

Short-listed candidates attend selection days for interview and assessment. In the case of DW placements, this is also an opportunity to learn more about the country, project and placement you are applying for.

At interview you must show that you are willing and able to:

• accept a one to two-year placement
• share your skills with local people
• share the working conditions of those with whom you work.

You must also demonstrate that you are:

• sensitive to the needs of the people you are working with
• self-reliant
• flexible and can learn to work in a different culture and language
• committed to justice and development
• respectful of different cultures and faiths.

Progressio may contribute to interview travel expenses provided the amounts are agreed with us prior to any travel booking being made.

Preparing for work

Before joining your host organisation you will receive orientation training in London and/or in your country of placement.

We place great emphasis on thorough pre-departure training to prepare you to live and work in a different environment and culture, and to adapt your skills to the needs of Progressio's partners.

Orientation covers:

• the country's history and its social, economic and political situation
• local culture and traditions
• gender and HIV and AIDS development issues
• information about the project(s) and organisation(s) you will work with
• language teaching (if necessary)
• practical information on health and living conditions
• information about Progressio
• Progressio's approach to development
• networking with other organisations
• terms and conditions for service.
