The organisation works closely with poor communities, mosque leaders, children, fishermen and women and has a good reach in all 22 districts of Hodeidah Governorate. Project activities include providing dormitories for poor students, access to basic health services and education, access to higher education, summer camps for poor students and providing vocational trainings. Jamiat al MustaqbilHealth awareness-raising among communities and schools, promoting nutritional gardens, nurseries and reforestation projects through the provision of plants and technical training to farmers; fighting desertification, and promoting local cottage industries. Women's Forum for Research and TrainingA women's led LNGO established in 2000 with the purpose of increasing coordination and action on the cause of women's rights in Yemen. The forum is most active in conducting research into issues affecting women in Yemen, organising conferences, seminars and training workshops, publishing human rights information, providing advocacy and training, and support for media production as well as developing training curricula for other LNGOS or women's community groups. Yemen AIDS Prevention AssociationA LNGO specifically working on HIV and AIDS and STIs and providing trainings on HIV and AIDS. It targets schools, religious leaders, media personnel, policy makers as well as raising general awareness in local communities. Principle issues include: prevention of HIV and AIDS transmission methods, HIV and AIDS and sex, encouraging voluntary testing, awareness-raising on confidentiality, provision of a hot line service, refugees and HIV and AIDS - lobbying against the negative image of refugees, provision of counselling to people who test positive for HIV, developing IEC material for public consumption, working with Yemeni youth. Women's Psychic Guidance and Hygienic AwarenessWorks to provide psychological guidance and counselling on the issue of violence against women. Conducts sessions in schools and colleges to deal with anxiety and psychological crises among students. Manages the Noor Institute for the Blind, a rehabilitation programme for the blind and mentally ill. Addresses women's health issues including female circumcision as well as general psychological guidance to the disabled. Women's Association for Sustainable DevelopmentWorks to improve the economic and social status of women in Yemen. Activities include supporting micro enterprises, forming self help groups of poor women in slum areas, vocational training for income generation programs, employment generating activities for the unemployed and poor, supporting the improvement of family based cottage industries for income generation. Overall the work of the Yemen-Progressio HIV and AIDS Programme is undertaken in co-ordination with the Yemen National AIDS Program. |
