Batsirai

Batsirai was founded in 1988 by members of the Chinhoyi community to address the rise of HIV and AIDS-related deaths in the area and to establish prevention and support systems to mitigate the effects of HIV and AIDS in the district. Batsirai's initial focus was on supporting people with HIV and AIDS who were returning home, typically discharged into the community without proper preparation. Batsirai has since broadened its strategy and now works on the following areas: raising awareness of HIV and AIDS, training care givers and educators and those in contact with HIV-positive people, home-based care, counselling and support services, promoting and supporting self-help groups for people living with HIV infection or AIDS, developing drop-in centres on farms, schools and churches and other institutions and supporting research initiatives on HIV and AIDS.
