Progressio works in the following areas in Nicaragua

Sustainable environment

• To help overcome the main causes of environmental vulnerability and advocate policy changes that favour sustainable development, and improve the levels of sustainable production and the quality of life of the most vulnerable rural sectors.
• Contribute to the strengthening of a small-scale farmers' organisation and the building of their advocacy capacity.
• Through a regional project supported by the Community Fund, we work with three counterpart organisations in Honduras, three in Nicaragua and three in El Salvador, to address the degradation problems and the management of natural resources.
• Train local promoters with a farmer-to-farmer methodology (campesino a campesino).
• Address food security problems.
• Promote agro-ecological production.
• Work with partners on the management of their natural resources, and on food production using sustainable methods and land use planning.
• Support for environmental education projects for children and communities and advocacy work on the protection of the environment with local and central governments.
