livesimply Community Challenge

The latest livesimply initiative encourages communities everywhere to take action for justice. Any community can get involved, large or small. Will you read the signs of your time and place and take action to respond?

"Individual actions may seem insignificant but together the small steps of many people can have an astonishing impact."

The Call of Creation, 2002

What are community challenges?

Up to now we have asked you to respond to the livesimply challenge by making promises. If you made a promise, you were one of more than 18,000 that we counted - and there were probably thousands more. People often made promises together: in youth groups, tutor groups in Justice and Peace and parish groups and whole schools.

In 2008 we asked livesimply network members to think of ideas for social justice that would make a difference to our world. Community challenges are the result. There are 5 themes we would like you to choose from: learning, lobbying, lifestyle change, liturgy, and local action.

How can we get started?

It's really easy to get involved in community challenges. Just follow these simple steps:

1. Think about the communities to which you belong - it could be a small one like the florists at church, or a big one like a high school - and bring one of them together.

2. Together, reflect on the gifts you have, and think about the things you are passionate about and the organisations you would like to support.

3. Select your favourite challenges from the ones on the livesimply website. Each challenge has its own page with everything you need to get involved.

4. Celebrate your success! Take photos, write an article, send them in to livesimply.

Everything you need including tools, resources and ideas for your challenge are available on the livesimply website.
