HIV and AIDS Policy and Advocacy Officer, £29,187 per annum plus benefits, full time, fixed-term two-year contract, based in Islington, London

The successful candidate should be educated to degree level in a relevant subject.

 

You should have proven experience of policy, research and advocacy on development issues, including HIV and AIDS; of building relationships with policy-makers and influencing policy change; of working with the media and developing communications strategy. Experience in general fundraising, writing project proposals and reports, and managing and monitoring a programme budget; and proven experience and skills in research methodologies including critical analysis and participatory methods are also essential.

 

You should have a mature understanding of development policy and policy processes; highly developed analytical and strategic thinking skills; sound knowledge of HIV and AIDS in the developing world and understanding of different faith approaches to HIV. Furthermore, the postholder should have strong political judgement, and ability to deal with sensitive issues with a variety of audiences; ability to understand and engage with Christian theology at an academic level; good knowledge of the structures of the Catholic Church and other UK faith networks, and of the importance of respectful dialogue with faith leaders; good understanding of civil society organisations and NGO networks engaged in advocacy around HIV and AIDS; good understanding of gender issues, methodologies and tools, and commitment to gender equity; and knowledge of bilateral and multilateral donors working in HIV and AIDS.

 

Willing to accept Progressio's roots in a radical, progressive Christian tradition and work with faith based organisations (as well as others); to travel in country programmes and elsewhere (four to six weeks per year); and an understanding of gender issues and a commitment to gender equity are also essential.
