19 Oct 2008 Capacity Building Coordinator (two-year placement), based in Hodeidah, Republic of YemenYou should have a degree level qualification or equivalent diploma in a relevant discipline and education/training in specific aspects of community development.
You should have a minimum of three years' work experience with local NGOs in an advisory/support capacity; proven experience of organisational development and capacity building within the NGO/community based organisation sector; proven experience in training/facilitation methodologies and direct training ability, and experience of liaison with a range of different organisations with an experience of network formation/network building, and of advocacy training.
Understanding of the role which NGOs play in national and community development and advocacy; skills in strategic planning and participatory monitoring methods; knowledge/understanding of one or more areas of particular focus (human rights, women's leadership, HIV and AIDS); good team building skills and consensus led approach to work; developed analytical, prioritising and networking skills, and demonstrated commitment to gender awareness; cultural sensitivity in an Islamic environment, and willingness to undertake road travel in Yemen are also essential.
Experience in and knowledge of international and regional NGOs; of working in the region; of Participatory Rural Appraisal, income generation or credit programmes; and of working in a resource poor environment are all highly desirable.
Specific practical community development skills; understanding of the importance of good networking and information strategies; financial skills and understanding of the issues facing newly emerging democracies are also highly desirable.
