HIV and AIDS Trainer, (18-month placement: December 2008 – May 2010), Based in Aden, Republic of Yemen

The post holder should have a degree in social sciences and/or a public health qualification or training, and inter-disciplinary knowledge of the management and control of HIV and AIDS (social/cultural, public health, advocacy).

You should have a minimum of three years' experience in HIV and AIDS programmes in a policy/management or design capacity at community and national levels; experience of effective strategies to respond to HIV and AIDS working with Muslim communities; of planning and facilitating training events on HIV and AIDS, and of working with governmental and non-governmental organisations and PLWHA. You should also have experience in the formation of support groups and the ability to train others in home based care.

Understanding of capacity building techniques and methods; understanding of the implications of gender when working with issues relating to HIV and AIDS; cultural sensitivity in an Islamic setting; ability and willingness to transfer skills through formal and informal training; strong planning and analytical skills; good interpersonal and communication skills, including good report writing skills in English, and the ability to adapt skills and knowledge to local context and work with existing resources are all essential requirements. Furthermore, you will need a commitment to participatory/consultative methods; an understanding of the importance of advocacy in addressing HIV and AIDS issues, and willingness to learn Arabic.

Experience and knowledge of international and regional/local AIDS organisations; of working with PLWHA organisations; budgeting and financial experience; knowledge and understanding of participatory monitoring and evaluation techniques; knowledge of Arabic and a valid driving licence are also highly desirable.
