Production and Market Development Adviser (two-year placement), based in Lilongwe, Malawi

The post holder should have a degree in Natural Resource Management, Environmental Studies, Agriculture or Rural Development.

You should have a minimum of five years' experience working in the field of organic agricultural production and marketing, as well as solid experience in organic production verification systems (including inspection, certification systems and accreditation); in working with small scale farmers in groups on production and marketing of agricultural produce; in organising training workshops and group meetings, and in organisational development with NGOs or civil society organisations.

Sound knowledge of organic verification systems such as inspection, certification and accreditation; demonstrable knowledge of internal control systems for group certification; knowledge of group scheme management and record keeping for organic operations recommended for developing countries are essential. The ability to establish relationships with national, local and international stakeholders; advanced knowledge of the social and economic conditions of small holders in developing countries; strong research and analytical skills; good facilitation and negotiation skills, the ability to mentor staff, plan, organise and conduct group trainings, and knowledge and a good understanding of environmental issues especially from a Rights Based Approach are also essential. In addition, familiarity with working in a multi-cultural and sensitivity and adaptability to different cultures, genders, religions, races, nationalities and ages; the ability to explore potential donors and providing support in resource mobilisation for more project activities, and the ability to travel, work and adapt to rural and remote areas within Malawi are also essential.

Specialised training in organic farming and production, and a driving licence are highly desirable.
