4 Dec 2008 The Challenge of Coexistence (El Desafio de la Convivencia) film screeningThe Challenge of Coexistence (El Desafio de la Convivencia), documentary film on Haitian immigrants in the Dominican Republic will be shown as part of the Discovering Latin America Film Festival. The Challenge of Coexistence was directed by Progressio development worker Tigu Guimarães and interrogates the background, conditions, economics and the multi-faceted results of Haitian migration to the Dominican Republic. Consisting mainly of interviews with local academics, members of the Dominican business community and migrants themselves, it touches on many of the difficulties that have accompanied Haitian migration from early in the 20th century to the present day. The film concludes with a look at various options for change which could facilitate a more harmonious future in Hispaniola. 43 mins, English narration with interviews in Spanish (English subtitles) The documentary film is being presented as part of a special evening with ‘Movimientos‘. The film will be followed by a special live set and album launch from Haitian DJ Chombo Loco who caused a sensation at the Carnaval Del Pueblo this year with his blend of Haitian rhythms, Caribbean flavours and Latin beats. Joining the party are the amazing Zizek DJs as part of their European tour showcasing the freshest beats from Argentina and beyond with their monstrous sound of digital Cumbia and electro Reggaeton!
