The post holder will be responsible for managing Progressio’s Malawi programme and will have two main roles:
- Provide support and supervision to development workers, ensure that all requirements are fulfilled, maintain relationships with local partner organisations and ensure a smooth relationship with the Southern Africa (SA) Sub-regional and London offices. Working together with local partner organisations, development workers and other stakeholders, s/he will advise on development policy and priority areas for Progressio's work in Malawi, within the context of Progressio’s skill-sharing and advocacy work. In coordination with the SA Sub-regional Management Team, the post holder will advise and oversee the implementation of Progressio’s 2010 - 2015 strategic plan for Malawi.
- Develop and implement the Empower project in Malawi, monitor its effectiveness, and report on it to the SA Sub-regional Manager.
This post requires a skilled and talented individual, with demonstrable leadership and programme management experience, who can deal with complex issues, a demanding workload, and can communicate well with a wide range of people.
Educated to degree level in a relevant professional field, the post holder will have a minimum of five years’ experience of NGO management, with proven experience in programme management; financial planning/ management; strategy and policy formulation and implementation; resource mobilisation (including reporting to and liaising with donors), and human resources management (including staff recruitment and selection, and performance management). As well as experience of network building and working with civil society organisations, including faith-based organisations, and of working with people of different nationalities and cultural backgrounds.
The ability to think and act strategically; excellent knowledge and familiarity with the socio-political and socio-economic reality of Malawi and of the region’s contemporary political and economic context; good understanding of international development issues and current trends, and well developed project cycle skills are essential. S/he will also have excellent interpersonal, representational and influencing skills; leadership skills, including the ability to work with/ build effective teams, and to engage and enthuse others; good problem solving skills and the ability to organise their own workload and work to tight deadlines; be dynamic and results oriented, and be flexible and adaptable to cope with changing circumstances.
