Six-month commitment
Are you fluent in English with excellent Spanish language skills? Would you like to use these skills to make a difference?
Progressio is looking for enthusiastic individuals to join a pool of volunteers and translate short documents from Spanish into English. You would be assisting Progressio in communicating and exchanging information on our programme work to our development workers and staff across our programmes, and external audiences.
The volunteer will be involved in translating short texts of usually up to two/three pages from International Spanish into British English, and proof-reading texts to ensure high quality. Texts include case studies, material from development workers and in-country bulletins and reports for internal and external use. Each time a task arises, the volunteer translator will be asked if they are available and if they can meet a specific deadline. Therefore, all tasks will be a result of mutual agreement between the Volunteer Supervisor and the volunteer.
Is this volunteer role right for you?
We are looking for fluency in English and a high level of proficiency in International Spanish (reading and comprehension); an ability to translate from International Spanish to English; very good writing and grammatical skills in English; attention to detail; good interpersonal and communication skills; an ability to organise time and work independently, and complete tasks to a deadline and a high quality; initiative, enthusiasm and a proactive, flexible approach to work; an openness to learning and positive attitude to feedback; excellent computer skills, including MS Word, email, and internet, and an ability to commit for a six-month period and to respond to requests promptly.
A degree or qualification in translation or Spanish; experience working as a translator (Spanish to English); experience of editing and proof-reading documents, and an active interest/ understanding of international development issues is desirable but not essential.
