Dominican Republic
Working with our partners, we:
- improved food security for the most disadvantaged communities on both sides of the Dominican-Haitian northern border, while helping the communities to prepare for and recover from the effects of climate change related events
- strengthened civil society organisations working in the border area
- assistied ASCALA setting up an agroforestry school.
- advocated for pro-poor policies and plans and pro-poor spending in the national budgetimproved civil society participation in local government decision-making in Elias Piña, Jimaní and San Juan de la Maguana, in the southern region
- provided training and support to municipalities in Enriquillo region to improve their ability to deliver pro-poor local development
- promoted sustainable farming, sustainable natural resource management, better nutrition, and building better livelihoods, through our cross-border food security project
Haiti
Working with our partners, we:
- improved food security for the most disadvantaged communities on both sides of the Dominican-Haitian northern border, while helping the communities to prepare for and recover from the effects of climate change related events
- monitored the distribution aid funds and public policies and programmes to rebuild Haiti after the January 2010 earthquake
- promoted participation of civil society organisations in the reconstruction effort
- provided training and support to improve disaster risk management at national, diocesan and parish level
- helped poor farmers in remote, isolated and environmentally vulnerable areas to improve their livelihoods through our cross-border food security project
